An analysis is presented along with simulated test results of two algorithms, RESIDT and RESIDG, which were developed to estimate the residual biases for an orthogonal triad of magnetometers. The algorithms were tested under the simulated flight conditions of the Active Magnetospheric Particle Tracer Explorers (AMPTE) mission for sensitivity to data rate, sensor granularity, orbit position, magnitude of residual bias, and sensor misalignment. On the basis of these test results, conclusions were drawn concerning the type of data necessary to ensure good algorithm performance.
