Modeling the Turbulence Structure of the Adiabatic Atmospheric Boundary Layer

The validity of an atmospheric model is checked. The model assumes that the boundary layer is adiabatic and neglects all horizontal gradients, except for pressure. Terms for generation, dissipation, pressure-strain, wall correction, diffusion and rotation are included in the partial differential equation model. A one dimensional transient computer program was used. A numerical grid consisting of 40 grid nodes was found to produce grid independent solutions. Predictions from the model and measurements coincide to lend support to the logarithmic wind profile in the surface. The predicted Reynold stresses, turbulent kinetic energy and its dissipation rate are presented.
