Seaborne Navigation Trial Utilising a Differential Omega System

A sea trial was conducted to test the accuracy of the Differential Omega navigation system at sea and to compare the results with those obtained on land. Position measuring equipment utilizing the Differential Omega system was set up on board ship and positions obtained by the Differential Omega system were compared with those obtained by the Argo system. The exercise and the results obtained are discussed herein. There appears to be a marked decrease in navigational accuracy during the night caused by ionospheric decorrelation.
