摘要

The properties of the symmetric triode electron gun are given in design rules as a function of its geometry and the applied potentials. A numerical method to simulate electron guns is described. The simulation is sufficiently accurate to replace a large number of experiments. The methods allow a significant reduction of the design time of electron guns. The design rules can be used for a first design, which can be evaluated subsequently by the simulation. If the results of the simulation meet the requirements a prototype is built for experimental verification. Usually, the prototype nearly or totally fulfills the requirements.
