Investigation by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the transient oxidation of NiAl; the application of Rutherford backscattering spectrometry on the study of high temperature corrosion processes emphasizing the oxidation of NiAl; Rutherford backscattering spectrometry as an experimental method to study the oxidation mechanism of NiAl3 alloy; the use of O18 tracer and Rutherford backscattering spectrometry to study the oxidation of NiAl; the use of markers and tracers to establish the growth mechanism of alumina scales during high temperature oxidation; an O18 tracer study on the growth mechanism of alumina scales on NiAl and NiAlY alloys; the relation between oxide structure and oxidation mchanism of alumina scales on NiAl; high temperature oxidation of IN617; n-type behavior of chromium (III) oxide; and the defect structure of chromium (III) oxide as a function of the oxygen partial pressure are discussed. The present work was undertaken to contribute to a better understanding of high temperature oxidation processes. Attention was focused on the transport properties of the oxides, since these have a major influence on the oxidation mechanisms of alloys.
