Konzeption und Analyse Eines Direkteinspritzenden Alkohol-Schichtladungsmotors (Concept and Analysis of a Direct-Injection Alcohol Layer Charge Motor)

The use of alcohol as an alternative fuel for diesel motors was investigated. The suitability of methanol and ethanol as fuels is discussed. The test motor and test stand are described. The test results and the thermodynamic analysis show that the alcohol fuel consumption is the same as that of direct-injection diesel motors. The amount of all toxic exhaust gases is reduced compared to diesel motors, if an oxidation catalyst is provided, and a part of the values remains significantly below the American emission limits.
