An important problem that appears when designing an artificial satellite attitude control system using the DRF (Derived Rate Feedback) controller is its gas consumption at limit cycle. This problem is solved: the gas consumption is calculated analytically and numerically either in the absence or in the presence of external torques. The numerical results agree with the analytical predictions perfectly. The effects of many system parameters on such gas consumption are analyzed through illustrative plots. They provide important background for designing those systems. The work also models the fluid system (which manipulates the gas) more precisely than in the available references to date, arriving at simple but useful models for the present calculations.
