APPLICATION OF A BANG-BANG CONTROL SYSTEM TO TWO SPINNING SPACE VEHICLES

A study was made of a technique for the synthesis of bang-bang control systems as applied to the attitude control of spinning space vehicles. Emphasis was placed on studying details of the technique when applied to a system with component dynamics. Consideration was also given to the handling of limit cycles.nThe investigation was based primarily on analog computer simulations of the attitude control of two different spin-stabilized space vehicles. The report includes the development of the switching logic and of a simple cut-off function to eliminate wasting of fuel in limit cycles. Typical results obtained from computer simulations are included for illustrative purposes.
