Review of Nonconventional Methods for the Registration of Optically Retrievable Information Preparation of Magneto-Optic Mnbi

The possibilities were examined for methods of information storage in materials different from the silver-halogenide films commonly used. On the basis of a comparison of the features of these methods a choice is made for magneto-optical information storage. A survey of the well-known magneto-optical effects is presented along with a description of the faraday-effect. The efforts undertaken to prepare MnBi in thin-film form and in bulk form are described. Some conclusions are made on the basis of X-ray diffraction patterns. (Author)
