Development of a compensating scintillator plate calorimeter system for SSC. Final report

This report gives a summary of progress made in 1991 on the development of a new hybrid photon detector for the SDC experiment at SSC and the support of the beam test of a prototype calorimeter at Fermilab in 1991. It also includes the final report which covers the performance test of a 53-ton, prototype, barrel calorimeter module with cosmic ray muons at Fermilab. The cosmic ray testing was a joint effort of Fermilab, Purdue University, and Virginia Tech. At the time of the test, the SSC became defunct and closed. The construction technology of the calorimeter was subsequently transferred to the CMS experiment of the LHC at CERN.
