摘要

A combined system of a cryostat and a flux converter has been installed in one of the side vertical thimbles of the Ames Laboratory Research Reactor. The cryostat operates on the thermosiphon principle and allows the irradiation experiments to be performed at temperatures between 80° and 870°K. In addition to varying and controlling the tem-perature of irradiation over such a wide range, the cryostat also makes it possible to conduct in-pile experimentation within the cylindrical Dewar tube of 2. 54 cm diameter. The flux converter, which lies peripherally around the bottom section of the dewar vessel of the cryostat, is con¬structed of CP-5 type fuel tubes from Argonne National Laboratory.
