This report contains a review of existing design formulas and theoretical con¬siderations applicable to standard flanges, and also emphasizes an approach to the analysis of stresses in rib-reinforced flanges subjected to axial loading. The rec¬ommended formulas and procedures are aimed at reducing the calculation time and reducing the overall weight of downhole-hardware for underground nuclear testing. The parametric equations and working formulas presented in the report form the basis of the line-of-sight computer program presently under development at Lawrence Radiation Laboratory.
