Effects of Graphite and Calcium Stearate Additives on 9407 PBX

Six possible blends of 9407 and one standard blend of 9007 PBX were blended with varying amounts of graphite and calcium stearate and used to fabricate 16 groups of 300 pellets each. Ten groups of pellets were fabricated to a density of 1.62 g/cc while the other six groups were fabricated to a density of 1.55 g/cc. All pellets were fabricated on a Dorst press.nAfter fabrication, the pellets from each group were individually weighed and histograms of each group's weight were prepared. Samples were chosen from each group and measured for height and diameter dimensions. The samples from each group were loaded into a special fixture and sheared to determine each group's average shear strength at the specified densities.
