In this work, it has been attempted to show that adsorption does in fact remove impurities from a low melting metal. The system under study was bismuth, a low melting metal, as the solvent and lead was the impurity or solute. This work was intended to be a starting point for further study and investigation of the feasibility of applying adsorp¬tion as a means of purifying liquid metals. Only further investigation will reveal if the adsorption operation can be successfully applied in purifying other liquid metal systems.nOther methods of purifying metals are currently being used extensively. Among these are zone melting, vacuum distillation and electrolysis, all of which differ in principle from adsorption.
