The Aerial Radiological Measuring System (ARMS) was used to perform an aerial radiological survey of the Surry Power Station and surrounding area from June 6 through 8, 1973. The terrestrial background gamma radiation was measured during the survey.nA high-sensitivity detection system collected gamma-ray spectral and gross-count data. The data were then computer processed into a map of a 508-square-mile area showing radiation isopleths 3 ft above the ground. Results indicated the presence of isotopes normally found in the background radiation throughout the United States.
