QUALITY OF WATER IN AQUIFERS OF THE AMARGOSA DESERT AND VICINITY, NEVADA

The U.S. Geological Survey has interpreted the rate and direction of ground-water movement away from the Nevada Test Site by using hydrologic data including results of hydraulic tests and geophysical surveys in deep wells. Ground water from different source areas will have different concentrations of chemical constituents. Comparison of chemical quality of samples of water from the Armargosa Desert, an area of discharge of ground water moving generally southward from the Nevada Test Site, should provide a better understanding of the nature of the movement. This report, a compilation of analytical data resulting from an intensive sampling program, is preliminary to and provides a basis for comparative studies.
