In Part 1 the Routh-Hurwitz criterion was used to analyze the roots of stability polynomials associated with a microstructural model for two-phase flow. In Part 2 (this report) the k-expansion procedure is seen to require much less algebra than the Routh-Hurwitz procedure. The k-expansion procedure is used herein to analyze the stability in the sense of von Neumann of certain microstructural models for two-phase flow. Several of these models are unstable. However, these models may be stabilized by the inclusion of viscous stresses. (ERA citation 05:038544)
