Use of Radiotracers in Natural Rubber Research in Malaysia

Five main areas where radiotracers have been used in research on natural rubber are on studies on the uptake of plant nutrients by Hevea brasiliensis using exp 32 P, exp 86 Rb and exp 45 Ca as tracers; biosynthesis of Hevea rubber using exp 14 C or exp 3 H labelled intermediates; translocation and metabolism of exp 14 C. Ethephon in Hevea brasiliensis; use of radiotracers as analytical tools and adsorption of labelled fatty acid soaps on natural rubber lattices. These studies are discussed to show the powerful tool that radiotracers provide in agricultural, biochemical and chemical research on natural rubber. (Atomindex citation 14:775822)
