The third annual report of the North Carolina Energy Institute summarizes progress on contracts active in 1981. It also updates contract states from previous annual reports. Each individual contract discussion stresses benefits of the research. At the end of the fiscal year (June 30, 1981), the Energy Institute had entered into a total of 68 contracts. Current high priorities for research include wood energy; assessment and utilization of native North Carolina resources (peat, olivine, and potential oil or natural gas); displacement of dependence upon imported oil for liquid fuels; and energy policies most beneficial to North Carolina citizens.
