Ideal Transport in Transition Metals: The Rigid-Muffin-Tin Approximation and Beyond

A recent calculation of the electrical and thermal resistivities of Nb and Pd due to electron-phonon scattering is reviewed. This calculation used the rigid-muffin-tin approximation and its results indicate that electron-phonon matrix elements calculated in this approximation are too weak at low momentum transfer. A formalism is developed for calculating the corrections to the rigid-muffin-tin approximation. (ERA citation 06:032241)
