Solid-Electrolyte Oxide-Ion Electrode for Molten Nitrates

An oxide ion sensitive electrode of the type Pb, PbO/ZrO sub 2 (Y sub 2 O sub 3 )// was constructed and its performance tested in the binary, equimolar molten salt NaNO sub 3 -KNO sub 3 over the temperature range 336 to 350 exp 0 C. The response of this electrode to oxide ion concentrations over the range 10 exp -6 to 10 exp -10 moles/kg is linearly dependent upon log (0/sup =/), and dE/dlog(0/sup =/) corresponds to a two-electron process.
