Use of Twin Wells and Water-Source Heat Pumps for Energy Conservation in Louisiana. Technical Report No. 9

The use of heat pumps and well water for energy conservation, is both safe and feasible in Louisiana. Two wells should be used alternately as the water source: one for production, one to return the water to the aquifer. Purpose is to eliminate any impact on ground-water levels and to prevent interference with other uses of the same aquifer. Tables are included for determining the spacing between the production and return wells for any combination of aquifer thickness, length of season, and rate of water production, so that returned water will not appear in the production stream. Economic analyses include residential, commercial and industrial applications for two parishes in Louisiana. All hydrogeological data needed for preliminary design are shown on maps.
