Electric field gradients at the Gd nuclei in monocrystals of gadolinium and rare earth trifluopides LaF sub 3 , CeF sub 3 , PtF sub 3 , NdF sub 3 , SmF sub 3 , E uF sub 3 , and CdF sub 3 have been measured by the method of integral perturbed angular correlation. The experimental data have been compared with those of point charge model calculations and with the results of other experiments such as Moessbauer spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, nuclear trifluorides of the light rare earth elements allow one to conlude that the field gradients cannot be explained within the point charge model. 41 references, 1 figure, 2 tables.
