This publication presents a detailed description of the equipment data system, and all modifications utilized to construct and operate a controlled-atmosphere, programmed-temperature reaction apparatus. The apparatus is used to examine the gases evolved from the thermal oxidative degradation or pyrolysis of (1) coal, (2) carbonaceous materials deposited on spent catalysts, and (3) other high melting organic materials. 6 figures, 1 table.
