Object is to determine the effects of the thermal treatments used during diffusion bonding, forming, and tritiding 50-cm-dia. RTNS-II targets on the room-temperature tensile properties of Amzirc, MZC, Elbrodur RS, and Glid-Cop copper alloy sheets of 0.04-in. thickness. The MZC sheet supplied to LLNL appears to have been improperly manufactured. The Amzirc sheet supplied to LLNL appears to have thermal-stability properties comparable to those exhibited by the Amax-processed product. The most likely explanation for the observed loss of strength is recrystallization. Elbrodur RS softens at 120 exp 0 C higher than either Amzirc or MZC. Glid-Cop sheet exhibited excellent thermal stability, most likely due to the effectiveness of the inert Al sub 2 O sub 3 dispersion in inhibiting recrystallization. 48 figures, 2 tables.
