Energy from Municipal Solid Waste: Mechanical Equipment and Systems Status Report

The state of the technology for the mechanical equipment used in systems producing refuse-derived fuel (RDF) is summarized. Emphasis is on size reduction and separation equipment. Densifiers, storage facilities, conveyors, and material recovery equipment are also discussed. Fourteen RDF plants were visited to obtain information on operating experience. Operating problems and solutions are discussed for each type of equipment. The results of several testing programs are also presented in abbreviated form. (ERA citation 08:031993)
