The bulletin presents statistical summaries of the adoption data gathered by the Voluntary Cooperative Information System (VCIS) for fiscal year 1982 (FY 82). The summaries are based on additional analyses conducted by VCIS staff since the publication of the December 1983 report. The methodology for the data from the 48 reporting jurisdictions involved adjustment of key data, because there is a major difference in how states track and count children placed on adoptive homes. Analyses considered the following factors, where information was available: ages of the children; race/ethnicity; special needs status of children; length of time children were free for adoption. These data were compared for children who were placed and children who still awaited adoption. Other adoption data analyzed include adoption subsidies, experience with adoption disruption, and national estimates. Eleven tables are included.
