In process for zirconium - Hafnium separation by TBP solvent extraction the presence of SO sub 4 ions have an adverse effect on the distribution coefficient of Zirconium in aqueous and organic phases. A study work has therefore been carried out to see the effect of sulphate ion in the extraction of zirconium from aqueous nitrate solution with TBP to prepare hafnium free zirconium.
