Simple Method for Computing Mean Fuel Temperatures During a Reactor Transient

A first-order equation for the kinetics of the mean temperature in a cylindrical fuel rod is derived by averaging the time-dependent heat equation over the fuel cross section. Flux depression is included but has a relatively minor effect on the fuel time constant. The resulting equation is useful in thermalhydraulic transient simulations. (Atomindex citation 17:083089)
