Background and Instrumentation for the Helicopter Instrument Scan PatternResearch Conducted at NAS Whiting Field

摘要

Effectively scanning and interpreting flight instruments are crucially importantskills for pilots. In order to fill voids in the literature and to provide objective, fleet relevant information describing instrument scan patterns under realistic situations, NAMRL developed the capability of monitoring, in an essentially non-invasive fashion, the scanning behaviors of pilots as they fly the full sized, motion based, high fidelity, helicopter instrument training simulator at NAS Whiting Field. This paper provides a photographic description of this research installation.
