History of U.S. Airborne and Shipboard Periscope Detection Radar Design and Development.

摘要

This paper traces the history of periscope detection radar (PDR) from the origin of radar in World War II to the near present. During this period, PDR sensors have evolved substantially, primarily due to notable changes in the threat, missions, requirements, measures, countermeasures, environment, and advances in technology. Today, it is necessary to detect relatively frequent, but fleeting, periscope exposures of acoustically quiet diesel-electric submarines against a background of numerous target-like objects in high-clutter littoral environments. State-of-the-art signal processing has transformed a labor-intensive, false-alarm-ridden endeavor into an automatic radar periscope detection and discrimination system.
