THE BOND STRENGTH OF ALUMINIUM ALLOY REINFORCEMENT BARS

Tests have been carried out to determine the relative bond strengths of aluminium alloy (designated types NE6-M and HE30-WP) and mild-steel reinforcing bars. Simple pull-out tests using 3/4 in. diameter bars embedded in 6 in. concrete cubes were employed. The results show maximum bond stresses for the aluminium alloys to be rather less than those for mild steel for specimens aged between 9 and 33 months.
