Aluminium composite materials are mfd. by: preparing a molten Al-Mg alloy; immersing an Al or Al-alloy substrate in the Al-Mg alloy melt until an Al-Mg alloy coating has formed on the substrate; and bringing the coating into contact with molten Al or Al-alloy, The molten Al-Mg alloy contains 28 wt.% Mg and is maintained at 520 deg.C. ADVANTAGE - Prodn. of high strength, homogeneous bond between Al/Al-alloy substrate and Al/Al-alloy cast component.
