There is currently a great deal of interest on many fronts concerning man's inhabitation of the sea. If this interest is a valid indication of future effort, as it seems to be., one may expect a significant increase in the number of experimental studies dealing with human work and task performance underwater. It seems reasonable to assume that the goals of these new studies will match the goals of previous investigations in other work environments. That is, there will be a similar emphasis on the psycho-physioloqical effects of environmental variations, and on the ways in which equipment and workplace design influence performance level.
