摘要

The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of producing a selective address Light Valve by using a cathode ray tube with a wire mosaic faceplate to transfer the charge pattern on the inside of the tube to the outside, where it would interact with a thin fluid film and thereby change the surface flatness of the film. A Schlieren optical system was used to view the surface and project a bright image of the variations in surface flatness to a viewing screen. A breadboarded model was constructed and its performance was analyzed. Test results indicated that a full size system based on this principle is feasible and could provide the desired characteristics of brightness, resolution, and selective address.
