Reliability Models in Mechanical Design.

摘要

The development and use of reliability models in mechanical designs is substantially less than in the field of electronic systems. Reliability in structural designs is usually accomplished through the use of safety factors. The size of the safety factor is generally determined subjectively according to past experience and engineering judgment. A reliability model provides the designer with a more objective way of relating system reliability to other system variables such as size and weight. This paper presents a qualitative examination of several models which now exist in the field of mechanical reliability prediction. Each model is discussed with reference to derivation,assumptions,input requirements,and applicability. A discussion on the general aspects of a mechanical reliability analysis is also included.
