Systems for Transporting Aircraft on the Ground. Phase 1A:Feasibility Study. Phase 1B:Concept Study.

Federal Aviation Administration Contract DOT-FA73WA-3200encompasses a study and prototype program to produce substantial improvements in the recovery of damaged or disabled aircraft and in the ground movement of aircraft (incident to flight operations) with reductions in noise levels and the emission of pollutants. This report contains a summary of the findings of the Phase IA effort in which the contractor investigated the mission of each system and the functions involved in performing the mission,the operational environments and operational constraints,and by developing and applying rational criteria to new conceptual systems,made determinations of the technical,operational,and economic feasibility of the systems and the ability to achieve the desired improvements. The second portion (Phase IB) is a concept definition report providing preliminary design information on seven aircraft recovery system concepts and seven aircraft ground movement system concepts.
