摘要

Many fog events have been observed at the coast of San Diego during the presence of a stratus-cloud deck using a set of remote (eg, FM-CW radar and acoustic echosounder) and direct (eg, radiosondes) atmospheric sensors. The sensor observations and analysis of mesoscale and radiosonde data provide evidence that radiational cooling from the top of the stratus clouds is a significant process leading to fog formation and that mesoscale variability of fog producing mechanisms is considerable.
