U.S. Naval Officer Perceptions of Billet Assignments and the Placement/Assignment Process.

U.S. Naval officer perceptions of billet assignments and reactions to the detailing process preceding such assignments were ascertained by a questionnaire developed and administered to a cohort of Naval postgraduate School (NPS) student officers which had recently received Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. A majority of the survey population felt that its next assignment would benefit overall career development. Similarly, the majority was satisfied with the accompanying detailing process. Significant departures from this trend were noted for the aviator and Naval flight officer community. Factors involved in new billet and detailing satisfaction as well as overall career aspirations were determined. (Author)
