Scotland Road Dam is a 120-foot long concrete structure with a maximum height of 15 feet. The dam consists of a 100-foot long overflow section (Ogee spillway) and a 20-foot long non-overflow section which extends to the right abutment. The spillway section ties into the Cellu Products factory building on the left side. The original dam was a timber crib structure constructed around 1820. The present dam was constructed about 1950. A 5-foot wide by 7-foot high sluice gate is located in the spillway section of the dam approximately 30 feet from the factory building. This sluiceway provides for drawdown of the reservoir. Water supply to the factory is transmitted through a 10-inch diameter pipe. The dam appears to be in fair condition. However, the spillway discharge condition at the time of the inspection prohibited a through inspection of the main section of the dam. Although the non-overflow section of the dam appears to be in good condition, trees growing near the wall create a potential hazard to the structure. In addition, erosion has occurred on the right abutment, possibly due to large flows of water. The routed test flood outflow of 18,520 cfs overtops the spillway crest by 9.3 feet and the top of the dam by 6.3 feet. The spillway system is capable of discharging 1,870 cfs prior to overtopping of the embankment, which is approximately 10 percent of the routed test flood outflow.
