摘要

The objective of this experiment is to find bearings that are suitable for de-spinning a fuze from a projectile body. Bearings must be able to survive both gun launch loads and high spin rates in this application. Three pairs of bearings are allowed to de-spin from approximately 250 Hz and then shot in a 155-mm air gun to simulate these loads. Overall bearing survivability and changes in friction (as measured by free spin time) are discussed in this report for three types of ball bearings. The revolutions per minute versus time plots acquired from spin-down trials provide a qualitative view of bearing performance and will allow bearing friction torque to be calculated in the future. All bearing pairs survived the loads applied. The quality of the selected bearings is evident in the spin-down profiles.
