Evaluation of a Laser-Diffraction-Size Analyzer for Use with Natural Sediments

Several authors in the 1970s suggested ways of inferring the size distributions of suspended particles from the angular distribution of forward-scattered light. These papers have led to the construction of instruments by CILAS (France), Leeds and Northup (U.S.A.), and Malvern Instruments (U.K.), respectively. The present study evaluates the Malvern Instruments Laser Particle Sizer Type 3600 E, which employs the principles set out by Swinthenbank et al. (1977).
