Software Portability: A Case Study of the Multi-Backended Database System

摘要

The multi-backend database system (MBDS) is a database system designed for very large database. MBDS is intended to provide consistent performance with increased capacity (or improved performance at a sustained capacity) by distributing the work of the system among several micro-computers connected to a common communication network. One of the issues central to the MBDS design is the potability of the system's software. This thesis provides a general discussion of the issues involved in software portability, and then presents a case study of the MBDS software system. (Author)
