Isolation, Spectroscopic Properties, and Electrochemical Properties of Two Oligomeric Silicon Phthalocyanines

A new method for synthesizing (eta-C6H13)3SiO(SiPcO)2Si(eta-C6H13) and methods for isolating (eta-C6H13)3SiO(SiPcO)3Si(eta-C6H13)3 and (eta-C6H13)3SiO(SiPcO)4Si(eta-C6H13)3 from a mixture containing these two oligomers are described. Well-resolved NMR spectra of the three oligomers and of (eta-C6H13)3SiOSiPcOSi(eta-C6H13)3 are presented. Electrochemical studies of the series (eta-C6H13)3SiO(SiPcO)nSi(eta-C6H13)3 (n= 1-4) show n one-electron oxidation and n one-electron reduction waves and give evidence of the delocalization of charge among the cofacial phtalocyanine rings in the dimer, trimer, and tetramer.
