Further Characterization of Leishmania Isolates from Children with Visceral Infection in Alexandria Area, Egypt

A previous study of two Leishmania isolates from children in El Agamy area (Egypt) showed that they were typical of L. donovani in their dissemination pattern in various organs of the hamster following intrasplenic inoculation of promastigotes, and that their excreted factor in culture was of sub-serotype B2. In this study we have attempted to characterize these isolates further by isoenzyme electrophoresis on cellulose acetate membranes. Reprints. (kt)
