Isolation of Genomic Clone for Human Cholinesterase

Human serum cholinesterase is a scavenger of nerve gas, reacting rapidly to detoxify it. In the present contract work we have isolated full-length cDNA clones for human cholinesterase as well as genomic clones representing all of the cDNA. The purpose for isolating these clones will be to use them in an expression system that can make active cholinesterase enzyme. The ultimate goal will be to make a small, stable peptide that has the detoxifying properties. of the cholinesterase enzyme and can therefore be used to protect the soldier from organophosphate-type nerve gases.
