It is generally acknowledged that non-linear systems exhibit important features that cannot be understood, controlled, or exploited without addressing their behavior in a non-linear form. We describe qualitative and quantitative techniques for the description of non-linear dynamic systems. These techniques are illustrated through the analysis of symmetric chaos.
