U.S. Southern Command and the Andean Drug War

As the operational commander for the region responsible for production ofvirtually all the cocaine imported into the United States, the Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Southern Co-and, provides the military response at the operational level for what is widely referred to as 'America's war on drugs'. The focus for these efforts, which in reality is a military operation other than war, is the Andean region of South America, and in particular the countries of Colombia, Boliva, and Peru. Of the three traditional methods of attacking the 'supply' side
