Codexis and Raizen Sign Agreement To Develop 1st Generation Ethanol

Sao Paulo—Codexis Inc. and the Raizen Energia joint venture between Shell and Cosan, have signed an agreement to jointly develop an improved first generation ethanol process with enhanced performance economics. Under the agreement, Raizen, which produced 600-million gallons of ethanol last year, and Codexis will deploy the Codexis CodeEvolver directed evolution technology platform to improve Raizen's process for producing ethanol made from sugar. The parties anticipate pilot production at Raizen's Bonfim mill.
