With the increasing agricultural crop production in India, over the last two decades, the pesticides industry has also been growing at a very vigorous growth rate. From a mere Rs.230 crores in 1981, it has reached about Rs.2,300 crores in the year 1995-96. This growth period has seen a sudden spurt in the numbers of basic pesticides manufacturers and large, medium and small time formulators throughout the country. Majority of the leading products have now come to the 'commodities' segment, which hasresulted into a total transformation of the distribution channel, the organization structure of the companies and working capital requirements, etc.
